Fly Fishing Nymphs: The Challenges Behind the Adventure
It all started out of my curiosity when I read in a magazine
about the sport fly fishing, I was fascinated on the fact that artificial flies were used as bait to catch fish.
I’ve done a little research and found out that these flies were created very much alike to a live one. I’ve been
addicted to fishing since then. Another thing that keeps me interested is fly fishing nymphs. Do you want
to know why? The ultimate reason would be the challenges that come along this technique since flies used in this
technique were very small; it tests the ability of every fisher that sometimes leads to frustration. Extra
patience is needed if you want to catch a fish through this method.
If you are not familiar with nymph fishing you will have hard time fishing on areas or spots
where fish only feeds on sub-surface insects. Another big challenge of fly fishing nymphs would be the
characteristic of the nymphs because they are floated along or near the bottom of the river making it prone to
underwater obstructions like rocks and most of the time they are mistaken by fishers to be already a good catch
which is otherwise. This also causes the nymph to hook other materials in the river like logs or rocks which
will be difficult for a fisher to unhook and eventually it will be trapped there.
In fly
fishing nymphs, the fisher will not be able to see the actual fly itself because it is submerged near the
bottom of the river so it would be a difficult situation where fishers could not easily set the hook and detect
strikes. Another addition to the fisher’s burden would be that he needs to ascertain the right depth, how to
make a good cast and not only that he should make sure that the cast is an accurate one so that the nymph would
be able to sink at the right area to the possible location of the fish.
Given these situations would surely be a taxing experience for
everyone; however these only add to the thrill, excitement and adventure that each experience may bring.
Fly fishing nymphs would never be an easy way to catch a fish. Everything in
this technique must be learned the hard way. Fishers seemed not to mind though because of the rewarding
experience they feel when they have had their good catch! Never mind the hardships along the way; you will get a
tenfold reward for that. After all the challenges, you enjoyed in the process and not only that you find true
happiness as well.
